Lukas memory master6/14/2023 His job as a college professor afforded him time in the summer to be with his five children Lukas, John, Mary, Paul, and Peter in Speculator, NY where he and Mary had built a cabin in the mountains. In addition to teaching advanced mathematics and physics, he led the Campus Christian Fellowship helping young people to have faith in Jesus Christ. As a college professor for nearly 30 years, he inspired many people to reach their God given potential. The Fekete family packed up and moved to very rural part of NY state to start a new life once again. After the successful Apollo mission, he was laid off and then found a job in rural upstate New York as a teacher at Herkimer County Community College. He helped design the Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (battery) that powered instruments used by the astronauts to conduct scientific experiments on the moon. His faithful brother, Denes, helped Lukas land a job at Northrop Grumman where he worked on the very first lunar space module in the mid 1960’s. His first job as a new father of twins was a high school math/physics teacher in western New York. He also worked and attended Adelphi University at night so that he could become a teacher. Lukas got a Bachelor of Science from Queens College in 1959 and then worked to get his Master of Science at Canisius College by 1963. He loved to dance and could ball room or polka with the best of them. and received notoriety as the leading scorer on his college team. Lukas was a distinguished soccer player at Queens College in Flushing N.Y. Lukas the 14th had to learn the language and get educated in between an active social life, playing violin, and dancing with Zsa Zsa Gabor. America opened their arms to refugees and the Fekete family traveled by boat to NY City in 1951 to start a new life. By the time he was released from the camp, the Russians had invaded Hungary and they were warned not to return home. Lukas Paul the 13th was considered an enemy and was put into a United States war camp leaving Elizabeth alone to provide for their two young boys. Once the war was over, they lived as refugees in Germany for about 7 years. ![]() As medics, they treated wounded soldiers in rail cars behind the front lines. Eventually, they got caught and Elizabeth and Lukas were drafted to serve as a doctor and nurse in the German army. ![]() They ran from the Nazis and tried to hide in the Transylvania Alps. The Fekete family was flourishing until 1944 when Germany invaded Hungary. Lukas and Denes grew up playing and running free in the countryside in Hungary.
